Always Simmering - TalentSoup Blog

Who’s Making Soup | Blog

Here’s the latest on what’s cooking. You’ll find business thoughts, inspiring ideas and of course castings. Note: Most clients don’t announce their castings publicly, so this is a fraction of actual projects for which Talent are being booked!

Whole family casting is now closed...thanks to all of you that added family shots!

The project is still active and the client is working through the talent options. More to come!

Talent Brand - Blazing New Trails While Backtracking A Bit

Tuesday August 24, 2010 by Chef

The great thing about pioneering, and blazing new trails (as a trend-setting company) through the wilderness (of the old, broken talent industry), is that if you notice your path is proving to be a bumpy path, you can always backtrack a bit, turn slightly and make a new path through the jungle.

In the case of Talent Brand, we recognized over the last week the road is not as smooth for our talent as we'd planned, so we are going to back track a bit and go around the bumpy parts.

In other words, I did a pretty poor job of explaining Brand and choosing terms that were truly reflective of our incredible talent. I just missed the mark and I hope you’ll forgive me. Before I explain further, a few things that Talent Brand is not-

  • It’s not a money grab by TalentSoup
  • It’s not a copy cat service (no other company offers this)
  • It’s not excluding anyone that chooses NOT to pay for a Brand upgrade

Talent Brand, as a strategy, is solid, effective and feedback from clients suggests it will be a huge hit in the long term. Where I failed, was in describing how Brand worked, why it's important, and the terminology I chose to describe Brand to you, our talent.

Over the next few days, we'll start updating the site with improved language, better descriptions, and better terminology that is more reflective of the amazing mix of talent in the Soup, even those that choose to stay with us under the free account.

So look for some subtle changes over the next week and an email from me once we are done. We are honored to have such amazing talent in our marketplace and are dedicated to putting you to work. Thanks for baring with us as we blaze new paths together.

Housekeeping note: Our Terms Of Use have changed and include new pricing, fee sharing and other additions

Monday August 09, 2010 by Chef

Be sure to read through the new Terms of Use. No, nothing about us getting to borrow your dog, or eat the food in your fridge, just changes to fee sharing, pricing and service offerings, and terms upon booking our talent.

In the interest of transparency, the biggest change for our talent are a fee sharing agreement, when we book you. Previously you kept 100% of your fee. Now, your Talent Brand determines how much you keep and how much you pay us for brokering your bookings. Again, only when, and if, we are able to book you.

For Clients, the functional processes have not changed, but we will now enforce a strict policy of advancing the talent fees prior to booking. This ensures we can pay our talent the day of their shoot, or within 72 hours worst case scenario.

Talent Brand is now live! Completely gushing explanation coming later this week.

Monday August 09, 2010 by Chef

Forgive me for the burst of excitement but we are like proud parents around here! For the first time, in 1.5 years of planning, Talent Brand is out in the wild.

We'll have some more detailed info coming this week, that will be sent out to our talent, but simply put, this makes our talent more marketable and more likely to be booked than any other tool we've offered.
